Contraindications: While reflexology is completely safe and effective for most people there are a handful of conditions where treatments are not suitable or caution must be taken.

Not suitable:

  • Infection of the foot (including fungal infection/verruca/athletes foot)
  • Internal bleeding or DVT, Phlebitis, inflammation of the venous or lymphatic system
  • First 12 weeks of pregnancy, unstable pregnancy, placenta previa, severe hypertension
  • Broken bones within the foot

Caution must be taken:

  • Recent surgery: It is recommended the client wait two weeks post-surgery before having a treatment. In the case of major surgery seek advice from your GP to confirm it is safe to proceed.
  • Diabetes: Client’s GP should be informed when undergoing treatments as reflexology can improve insulin levels and therefore medications may need to be reviewed.
  • History of alcohol/substance abuse
  • Heavy medications: Reflexology works to detoxify the liver so therefore it may dispel medications from the body quicker than usual. Advice from GP should be sought pre-treatment.
  • Cancer: Reflexology has been proven to be extremely beneficial for clients with cancer or those who have just overcome it. It can reduce pain, ease chemotherapy side effects and greatly improve clients quality of life. Gentle treatments are necessary however, as the body will still be very sensitive. If in any doubt, seek advice from your GP before receiving a treatment.
  • Epilepsy: As reflexology engages with the central nervous system it is advisable that clients with epilepsy consult with their GP before receiving treatments for suitability.

Cancellation Policy: Barefoot Reflexology exercises a 24-hour cancellation policy. There will be no charge for cancellations made before 24 hours of the booking, however, to avoid disappointment to other clients cancellations made after this will require the fee to be paid in full.

Disclaimer: Barefoot Reflexology does not profess to cure or diagnose any medical conditions. Clients are thoroughly encouraged to seek medical advice from their GP regarding any new or ongoing health complaints.

Privacy Statement: Client information is treated with the strictest confidentiality and
will not be discussed/shared with a third party at any time.

COVID SAFETY: All necessary measures are taken in the therapy room to ensure client safety and well-being during a treatment. Surfaces are thoroughly cleaned between appointments and all appointments will be spaced out to prevent client overlap.
