Traditional Foot Therapy

Experience the magic of what a one-hour foot treatment can do for you! Reflexology is a hands-on, non-intrusive therapy where pressure is applied to specific areas mapped on the feet using special thumb and finger techniques. Immediate benefits can be felt after just one treatment: increased circulation, deep relaxation, tension release, increased energy – just to name a few; however the greatest effects will be felt after a course of treatments (min 5-6) as this time allows for hormone regulation, removal of toxins and waste from the body and re-balancing of the body’s systems.

Using the traditional method researched by reflexology pioneer Eunice D. Ingham, Barefoot Reflexology applies the same original mapping and techniques this ‘Mother of Reflexology’ developed through her studies of Zone Theory. This theory is based on the ancient Chinese concept that the body can be divided into 10 longitudinal lines, through which life’s energy – or ch’i – flows, and has been effectively used for thousands of years through the practice of acupuncture in traditional Chinese medicine.

Facial Reflexology

Reflexology on the face is a perfect alternative to Traditional Foot Therapy. This gentle yet powerful treatment harnesses all the healing benefits of a reflexology treatment while also giving you that ‘just been to the spa’ glow!

Face reflexology uses the same energy meridians and zone mapping as with foot reflexology, however it also blends acupressure points into the sequence for an unbelievably relaxing and therapeutic experience. Developed by Catherine Clooney, FRCC guarantees the highest professional standard of treatment and you won’t be disappointed when you leave the clinic feeling totally refreshed and light as a feather!

Only the highest quality, award winning essential oils hand-made in Co. Cork, Ireland are used during a Face Reflexology treatment. MODERN BOTANY™ is a completely natural, organic vegan oil blend and is hypoallergenic making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin.

** Please note: Only a light cleansing will take place before this treatment so no/minimal make-up is advised as it may interfere will the oils ability to absorb into the skin and reduce its healing properties.

Maternity Reflexology

Reflexology is a wonderful treatment during pregnancy as it is highly effective in easing these common pregnancy complaints:

  • Insomnia & sleep disturbances
  • Hip/joint pain associated with the natural loosening of sacroiliac joints in preparation for birth
  • Reduce heartburn, nausea and vomiting caused by oestrogen surges
  • Constipation
  • Backache
  • Tiredness
  • Emotional anxieties, fears and tension
  • Oedema (swelling of the hands and feet)

Regular reflexology sessions, particularly in the third trimester, have shown to help reduce labour time, encourage the turning of a breech/transverse baby naturally, and assist in a more comfortable birthing process. For other medical conditions related to pregnancy please read the information section.

Infertility

Reflexology works in harmony with the complexity of the human endocrine system, encouraging hormonal regulation and bringing homeostasis and balance within the body. Irregular hormones can cause a host of dysfunctions physically and mentally, which, when left untreated, can then lead to infertility. Reflexology can help ease conditions associated with hormone irregularity:

  • PCOS
  • Irregular menstruation or amenorrhea
  • Endometriosis
  • Stress
  • Mood swings/PMS
  • Dysmenorrhea (extreme period pain)
  • Blocked fallopian tubes

Clients seeking treatments for infertility will receive a treatment plan based around their cycle and ovulation dates.

Cancer Care

With estimations now showing one in two of us may get cancer at some point in our lives, it’s evident that this increasing diagnosis rate is already having a huge effect on every family in some way in Ireland. Barefoot Reflexology offers gentle treatments for those undergoing chemotherapy or other forms of medical therapeutics, and also for palliative care. Reflexology for patients during this emotionally and physiologically challenging time has been shown to:

  • Reduce pain (by up to 60% in some cases) – leading to reduced need for pain relieving medications
  • Promote relaxation which reduces mental stress & bodily tension
  • Encourage longer, deeper sleep – essential for tissue repair and regeneration
  • Ease psychological side-effects such as anxiety and PTSD
